Cyber Bullying Insurance Now Available
A UK insurer has released the world's first ever cyber bullying insurance policy to the public. These policies are supposed to cover the costs of any professional help you may seek as well as time off work (loss of earnings) and relocation for severe cases.
The firm responsible is Chubb Insurance. They say that their cyber bullying policy holders will be covered for up to £50,000 which will cover the cost of counselling, loss of earnings (if you are off work for more than a week) and relocation if necessary. These policies are meant for worried parents but adults can also receive cover if they wish.
So-called 'troll insurance' may sound like a silly idea at first but there have been some high-profile cases where reputations and businesses have been ruined by online harassment. Certain individuals may have to hire a reputation management team to clean up any damage done by attackers and this can cost a lot of money.
Tara Parchment, a private client manager, said: "We see insurance as helping our clients get back to how they were before the incident occurred - whether it's an incident that affects their home or as a person. We still help restore homes, cars and belongings that have suffered physical harm or damage but it's increasingly becoming about the person and how they cope with the situation."
